GRESFORD Cricket Club – Safeguarding Policy Statement

Gresford Cricket Club (The Club) is committed to ensuring all Children (i.e all persons under the age of 18 ) participating in cricket have a safe and positive experience.

We do this by: 

1) Putting things in place 2) Having the Right People in Place 3) What do you do if you have a concern? 4) Cricket Specific Guidance

1) Putting things in place

We recognising all children participating in cricket (regardless of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, ability or disability) have the right to have fun and be protected from harm in a safe environment 

We ensure individuals working within cricket at, or for, our club provide a welcoming, safe, and fun experience for children 

We provide an environment where the views of children, parents and volunteers are sought and welcomed on a range of issues. This will help us create an environment where people have the opportunity to voice any concerns (about possible suspected child abuse/neglect, and/or about poor practice) to the Club Welfare Officer 

We Adopt and implement the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) “Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children”

We ensure all individuals working within cricket at, or for, the club are recruited and appointed in accordance with ECB guidelines and relevant legislation 

2) Having the Right People in Place

Appointing a Club Welfare Officer and ensuring they attend training modules required by the ECB,

Club Welfare Officers Role 

As the first point of contact for parents, children and volunteers/staff within the club - As a local source of procedural advice for the club, its committee and members 

 

As the main point of contact within the club for the ECB County Welfare Officer and the ECB Safeguarding Team, 

As the main point of contact within the club for relevant external agencies in connection with child safeguarding. Ensuring correct and comprehensive reporting procedures exist for raising and managing child safeguarding concerns. 

3) What do you do if you have a concern?

We ensure all suspicions, concerns and allegations are taken seriously and dealt with swiftly and appropriately. 

We ensure access to confidential information relating to child safeguarding matters, is restricted to those who need to know, in order to safeguard children – including the Club Welfare Officer and the appropriate external authorities, such as the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), as specified within ECB child safeguarding procedures.

5) Cricket Specific Advice

We ensure all individuals working within cricket at, or for, the club are provided with support, through education and training, so they are aware of, and can adhere to, good practice and Code of Conduct guidelines defined by the ECB, and the club. 

We ensure all people who work in cricket at, or for, our club (such as staff, officials, volunteers, team managers, coaches and so on) understand how the “Safe Hands Policy” applies to them

 Welcome Letter for Parents.

Dear Parent / Carer,

Welcome to Gresford Cricket Club. We hope that you and your child(ren) enjoy being a member of the club and make the most of all the opportunities available, whether that be All Stars Cricket, cricket coaching, training and matches, as well as enjoying the social scene available at the club. 

The aim of this letter is to provide information that may be helpful to you as new members. Please feel free to ask me, any committee member or coach if you have other questions not answered in this letter.

A full list of committee members, coaches and officials can be found on the club’s notice board and website but please see below for key members:-

The club is run by a number of volunteers. We welcome any offers of help from all members and hope that you will feel able to get involved.

We as a club adhere to the ‘Safe Hands’ Policy for Safeguarding Children in Cricket. All of the adults at the club who work with children meet the necessary criteria and are checked and vetted by the ECB. Whilst we hope your child will be happy and content at the club, we understand that sometimes questions, concerns or difficulties may arise. Please feel able to raise these as soon as possible, so we can rectify things at the earliest opportunity. 

If you have a question regarding coaching, please approach the coach in the first instance. Our coaches will be happy to speak to you before or after training or at another convenient time. Please do not interrupt coaching sessions, as this may distract the coach when he or she needs to be supervising the children. 

If you have questions about kit requirements, training times, pick up arrangements etc please speak to  any of the named coaches

The ECB’s Policy for safeguarding Children in cricket, is available to view online at https://www.ecb.co.uk/safeguarding or a copy is available at the club. 

Please note the club cannot accept responsibility for getting your child to away matches. 

Finally, all members are reminded of the club’s code of conduct for members and guests which is  available on ourwebsite and posted on the club notice board.

Welcome Letter for Children.

Welcome to Gresford Cricket Club. We hope that you enjoy being a member of the club and make the most of all the opportunities available to you, whether that be All Stars Cricket, cricket coaching, training and matches. Most importantly cricket is fun, it will give you the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy social activities.

The aim of this letter is to provide you with information that may be helpful to you. Please feel free to come to me or your coaches if you have any questions.

In order for you to make the most out your involvement with Gresford Cricket Club there are things the club would like you to know: -

• You are always expected to be respectful. In joining the club, you are agreeing not to act in a violent manner or use bad language. • Look after all club property and equipment. •  Do not argue with umpires, managers, coaches or other players. • Applaud good cricket, whoever plays it. • Watch and support your team and club, even when not playing. • Listen and learn - follow instructions. Do not talk when the coach is talking. Be sure you understand, what you are being asked to do, if you don’t, ASK. • Encourage each other and be supportive at all times. • Keep good time - arrive early for training sessions and matches • Advise the manager in good time, if you are going to be absent or late. • Enjoy yourselves, work hard, always try your best and show a positive attitude at all times. Have Fun!

 

The club has a code of conduct for members and guests which is available at Gresford and is posted on the club notice board. 

Everyone at the club wants you to be safe and to have fun. All the adults at the club who work with children are checked and vetted by the England and Wales Cricket Board. Whilst we hope you will be happy and content at the club, we understand that sometimes questions, concerns or difficulties may arise. 

If something is worrying you, don’t keep it to yourself

Please tell someone as soon as possible if you have a concern for yourself, about another child at the club or if you are worried about the behaviour of an adult at the club. 

You can speak to me, the Club Welfare Officer, your parent / carer or another member of the club at any time.
