2013

22nd April .The 1st Eleven start the NWCL season with a maximum points win at Chirk. The Ellwoods dominated the scoring with two magnificent knocks (Alex 144, Chris 75). G ford finished on 255 for 4. Chirk never threatened this total (121 all out) with Jack Bunkell (4) and Gareth Bell (3) the main wicket takers. Good start.

27th April. The 1sts travelled to Llay with Alex Ellwood (123) leading the way with his second successive century , well supported again by Chris (49). Gresford declared on 236 for off 45 overs. Llay passed this total for 6 wks inthe 44th over. John Bell taking 3 wks.

The 2nds started the season with an excellent 42 run win at Shotton 1sts. Andy Thomas (51), Ian Weaver (54no) and Matt Daulby (74no) the run getters. 220 for 3. Shotton finished on 178 for 7 with Dan Griffin claiming 3. (Steve G felt his 3 ball over constituted the best spell of the day)

4th May. The 1sts travelled to Conwy to play the first game their since the damage to the outfield last year. Once again, batting first a big score ensued with Chris (142) the dominant Ellwood. Brilliant. Alex (64) was ro as were 2 others of the 4 wks to fall! 272 off 44 overs seemed like a winning score. Nobody told Conwy who proceeded to get 273 for 7 off 53.2 overs (Chris E and JB, 2 wks each) The 2nds played the first game at Home this year, unfortunately not a good one. With lots of the usual team unavailable and M isa 1st at full strength, it was something of a mismatch. G 72 all out (Steve G 27) and lost by 9 wks. Oops

11th May The 1sts start their home season with a winning draw (unsatisfactory in so many ways!). However the match was memorable for Sean Richards maiden 100...magnificent...which allowed G`ford to declare on 235 for 7 off 45 overs. Pont finished on 148 for 6 (3 wks for Simon Perry). 4th century in 4 games!

The 2nds game at Mold didn`t start but youth team matches have, the U15`s beating Brymbo by 10 wks (Matt Thompson and Jacob Roberts chasing down Brymbo`s 90.) The U 13 were equally as emphatic beating Gwersyllt by 8 wks. (Dan Parry staring with bat, Ryan McCarthy with ball)

On Sunday 12th G`ford hosted a NE Wales U13 match vs Cheshire, rain disrupted the start and then Cheshire dominated.....the tea `boys` were good though!

18th May...Four centuries in four weeks. This time it was Ian Weaver (111) against Brymbo. The 2nds went on to reach 256 for 3. Steve Griffin (56) and a maiden 50 (no) for youth team star Chris Mullock. Well played all three. Brymbo were then dismissed for just 72 (4 wks each for Dan Griffin ) Meanwhile the 1st played out a winning draw at Marchweil G`fords 170 for 7 dec (Chis Ellwood 41, David Baker 36no) proved too much for the home side who finished on 145 for 8 off 52 overs....Bell (snr) and Perry, 2 wks each and 3 runouts.

The midweek team finally got going with 60 run win away at Chester Lions. The target of 191 for 4 (George Morris 59 and Gareth Bell 32no) was too good. SP and DB 3 wks each in the Lions reply.

Youth team results....Under 15 (2 games) and U13 fixtures were cancelled. The U13`s had two good wins over Malpas and Brymbo (Welsh Cup)....coach Ellwoods full reports are available in the `meet the teams` section. Be warned, Great to see two U9 sides starting, with the `girls` and friend losing by just 4 runs to Malpas. At Pont a comprehensive win was witnessed. Well done!

25th May. The 1sts entertained Menai Bridge and recorded a comfortable 50 run win despite their lowest score of the season (150 all out...Chris Ellwood 41). MB wickets were shared with Simon Perry claiming 4. Meanwhile the 2nds gained a good win at St Asaph. James Williams (5wks,) and stand in skipper Matt Daulby (3 wks) were responsible for the homesides 94 all out. Chris Mullock (41) and Ian Weaver (37) then knocked off the runs needed for a 7wk win. The 2nds Bank Holiday fixture at Conwy was rained off....they were delighted to have to travelled to decide the obvious!

The Sunday Friendly Eleven started their season with a first ever game for Gresford at Sefton... and won by 40 runs. It was a family affair with the Thompsons (Tim 79 an Matt 50 both retiring not out) followed by the Quinns (Alex 37, Steve 17) dominating the scores..219. The midweek team won at home against Carmel by 7 wks. Danny Williams 3 wks early on helped reduce Carmel to 98. Gareth Bell (41) and Jack Bunkell (35) got the runs!

Youth team games were ruined by the weather throughout the week...however the Under 9 girls (and friends) recorded a first win over Brymbo..BY 156 RUNS!
