Welcome to Gresford Cricket Club
Hope all are keeping well.
Cricket is not that important at the moment but ..................
20.06.20
Following yesterdays announcement in the Senedd, nets can now be opened (from 22nd). However the rules and regulations around the use of the nets are considerable. To help us organise ourselves we are having a Zoom meeting 5pm tomorrow (Sun 21st)
19.6.20
We await news re opening of nets etc. Some hints in the lunchtime Senedd announcements. Watch this space.
13.06.20
Still no news re nets/cricket starting . Meeting at ground today to sort out groundwork tasks. These continue on Monday....all welcome. We are currently `building` a new website which we will launch soon. Watch this space.
6.06.20
Despite the ECB`s announcement yesterday of a relaxation cricket practise restrictions. This does not apply to us in Wales. Nets are still shut.
GCC host their first Zoom committee meeting. The highlight of which was the treasurer`s silent report!
5.06.20
Bunks proved himself to be be a most entertaining host with CE and DB finished top two in tonights quiz.
3.06.20
Committee Meeting Sat 6th June 11am via Zoom
31.5.20
Sadly we are still not allowed in the nets...as details for using the nets become available we will post them on this site.
Fridays quiz did not produce a hatrick of wins for Cam. Fresh from his first hundred (see below and work it out) for the club he couldn`t quite work out where the cricket ball was in Doobs ex picture round. CE was the overall winner with Gaz 2nd. Next weeks question setter is Jack B.
27.5.20
Today we finished our challenge. The target was 1362 miles, to every ground and back. But this amazing group of people have managed 1436. Thankyou to everyone who took part. Please share far and wide and donate to @EvaUnbeatablepic.twitter.com/kAshVyzEHB
23.5.20
Great quiz again last night.....thanks to Dave B.... with Cam (again) the best of the bunch. Walk4Eva fund raising going well with lots getting involved and we have started to get some funds from ClubTogetherNow. Keep supporting both......and pass this message on.
19.5.20
Re ClubTogetherNow fund raising.......you may be using this platform and notice that we have not been given much by way of reward! Don`t worry yet.....it can take upto a month for the companies involved to invoice their contributions to clubs such as us! Worry in a month if we are still in single figures! Please pass this on to any other potential users.
16.5.20
Once again the standard of question mastery was excellent last night (well done to Matty T this time)! Top dog this week was Cam Evans. Well done to him. Next week it`s David B in the chair.
15.5.20
You may have seen todays announcement by the ECB of the conditions allowing the very limited resumption of outdoor nets. This applies only to England. The position in Wales is that nets remain closed, this will be reviewed at the end of the month. More details are available on the ECB and Cricket Wales websites.
12.5.20
9.05.20
Elis James` recent BBC podcast (still available) featured our very own Sam Coops talking about his darts prowess.....hope he throws straighter than he bowls!) and the charitable work he and his team have been doing to raise money for the Leonard Cheshire Homes....see our Twitter account for more details. Link on this page.
8.05.20
Once again last nights quiz was a tihtly fought affair with the top three seperated by just 3 points. Bamber Ellwood once again finishing top of the pile. Cam was an excellent question centre/compere ( although he does have homework....tropical storm meteorology). Next week, Matt T sets the questions.
4.05.20
ClubTogetherNow.com......log into their website, search club (GRESFORD), tap retail outlet (lots and lots available) and you are directed to their website. We get a donation for each shop you make. It doesn`t effect any deals, savings you already have or any cost to you, it simply makes a donation to the club. Could be an easy way to make some money. A few of us have looked at this scheme which seems to work for other clubs
3.05.20
SP`s aerial grounds quiz becomes a Twitter sensation!
2.05.20
Last nights quiz had a record number of competitors from far and wide (incl USA and parts of England!!). CE was the narrow winner of an excellent and varied set of SP questions. Cam E will be setting next weeks questions.
Not very exciting but necessary, please see the recently completed section on Safeguarding in the `About the Club` section of this website. For coaches, captains it is a must read.
25.4.20
On the day the ECB announce that 1st class cricket is cancelled until at least the start of June, SP triumphs in the 3rd GCC lockdown quiz (he will set next weeks questions). Special mention goes to `young` Cam E on his pleasing knowledge of `bitter` beer! This boy will go far.
22.4.20
Don`t forget round 3 of the GCC lock down quiz is this Friday 8pm......see Doobs or Josh K for more details....log in etc
18.4.20 First game of the season at `come on Conwy`. On a lovely sunny day Danny lost the toss and we fielded. CE opted to bowl up the hill against the wind and promptly took 3 quick wks (a lesson for games to come). Wks followed for fellow opener RW (2), Ross and SP also got two each with one run out. Conwy 148 all out. The Thompsons opened and were comfortable at 50 without loss....both then got out, one caught down the legside the other lofting a drive to mid off. CE was quickly out lbw on the front foot, 8 feet down the bouncy wk. Skipper DW continued his good form of last year getting out for 48 to areverse sweep which hit his helmet and popped to first slip. MC and Gaz saw us home for a 6 wk win.
If only some of the above was true!
18.4 20
Last nights quiz was won by Gaz B (with a tiny bit of elderly help). Bell`s to set next weeks. Doobs` knowledge of kids cartoons was worrying!
15.4.20
Reminder...second GCC lockdown quiz, this coming Friday with CE setting the questions. If you are not sure how to join in please get in touch with Josh K or Doobs
13.4.20
From Richard Penney, sad news re John Woodworth
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that John passed away early this morning.
For many years he was the heartbeat of Hawarden Park CC serving as Groundsman, Chairman and President.
His death is attributed to COVID-19 and I am absolutely certain that he would want me to use his passing as a statement to all involved in the game that we all need to be vigilant and responsible to protect our friends and family.
11.4.20
Well done to Josh K for setting the questions for last nights GCC online quiz. Congrats to Chris E for winning this first such event. Same again next week???
8.4.20
First one to go...the Flintshire KO has been cancelled for the forthcoming season.
7.4.20
Blast from the past...first pictures added to new photo collection of `oldies`. Please send in your own, See Photo Gallery section
4.4.20
Nice day for the sponsored pre season walk. And Jonathon Davies` horse won the National. Shame neither happened!
3.4.20
Outfield work completed...looks very good (ironically)
The ECB and Cricket Wales are offering Grants/Loans to clubs in financial difficulty. If anybody wants to have a look on their website...please do
Cricket Wales are hosting a `Question of Sport` via their website on Thurs 9th April 7pm ...might be worth a look.
30.3.20
Outfield has been verti drained (Friday) and will be top dressed over the next few days.
28.3.20
ECB.....announce the AllStars and Dynamos cricket is postponed until further notice
Lots of online cricket resources are available for both junior and senior cricketers.....Cricket Wales website and Twitter page is a good place to start. Also try Google Classroom. Click `join class`. Class code 2mnr7pe
27.3.20
Last weekend before the `shut down`, quite alot was achieved at the ground....on the square, in the nets, covers, shed and sight screen. Monday the nets were deemed out of bounds and will remain so for the forseeable future.
Outfield.....thanks largely to IG the outfield looks good and ironically would probably be ready for an April start. More `contractor` work is going on today and early next week. This is being done by a lone employee of Bancrofts and is within the conditions of social distancing (verti draining and top dressing). The contractor must not be approached whist this work is being undertaken.
Guidance from the ECB and other `grounds organisations` and with agreement of the Trust means that one person at a time can carry out essential maintenance of the square over the next few weeks.....i`ll coordinate this next week, after the outfield work has finished.
NWCL......are providing us with regular updates. Latest suggestion is for an July 4th start to the season ie midway . All play each other once, no relegation etc....Ladies....no teas required, players, officials bring their own!
ANNUAL PRE SEASON STROLL Saturday 4th April 2020 2pm. Start and finish at the Plough..CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Last year we walked to the East and North of Gresford, this year it will be mainly to the North and West. It will last about 2.5 hours and is suitable for all ages (u15`s need to be with an adult) and abilities (wheel chair access to most of the route). Well behaved dog owners and their dogs are welcome.
As per last year we will be back to watch the Grand National with a drink in the Plough.
Suggested donation of £5 (minimum!) to GCC for the privilege of getting tired and having some fun.
Most of the walk is via public footpaths and quiet roads and you join us at your own risk!
Huge congratulations to two of our girls who have been picked for Wales squads for the coming season. Georgia Munroe is once again picked for the U15 squad with Zoe Cabral taking a place in the U17 squad. Well done to both girls. Thoroughly deserved.
2020 AGM Thurs 27th Feb... All officers were re-elected as were the senior captains. Danny W with the 1sts and Matt D/ David B with the 2nds. Subs remain at £40 and are now due. Membership forms are available in the News Section
Tea Rota.......Karen and Linda are currently putting together a tea rota for the forthcoming season. If you or anybody else you know can help with preparing, providing or sponsoring a 1st or 2nd team tea then please contact Karen, Linda, Lynda, Lesley, captains, George, John B or anybody else! Thanks
Outfield Damage.....the above picture is one of many (some others are available in the gallery section) of our outfield following a visit by a film crew last Autumn. Thanks to the Trust a programme of restoration has started, a lot of work is needed prior to the start of the season in April!
Welcome to the home of Gresford Cricket Club. We run four senior teams: 1st and 2nds compete on a Saturday in the North Wales, a 3rd Sunday League team and a midweek team that plays in the Chester and District midweek league. Our Under 19`s compete in the ECB National Championship. We have a strong junior section which is ECB accredited and have five junior teams run by qualified coaches. Click the above menus for more information on our teams.
Dates for your diary.
Not sure what`s happening when at the moment
2019 Senior Presentation.....a wonderfully entertaining evening was held at the Colliery Club on Friday 27th Oct. The individual award winners are listed in the About the Club section of the website. Congratulations to them and thanks to our sponsor (SGESTATES), our hosts and to those who helped put the evening together.
The Junior Presentation followed on the 4th Oct at the Memorial Hall. Thanks to all the parents and players who attended and to all the coaches who reflected on the years successes and presented the well deserved trophies.
CLUB STATEMENT.....Gresford CC vehemently supports the DONTBUYTHESUN campagne and is henceforth a Sun Newspaper free club. We would also encourage other clubs to follow suit.
BINGO NIGHT at GCC Friday 12th July at the Memorial Hall. Lots of really good prizes donated by many local businesses (thankyou). This event was well supported wth lots of fun had by all and some good prizes won.....Neil M winning the beer was thought a little suspicious however. Well done to all who attended and to those who organised the event.
Quiz Night (8th June). With our exellent quiz master in charge (Magnus Doobs) a most enjoyable and competitative evenining ensued. Well done to all who attended and particularly to the organisers. We will do it again...soon?
Sunday 2nd June......an excellent day of festival cricket started at 10.30am with an U9`s tournament featuring six local teams. This was followed by a Ladies tournament involving teams from Dolgellau, Colwyn Bay and Gresford. Competition was both fierce and fun....see photo gallery for some piccies. The day was kindly sponsored by GEM Sports with the Morris family in charge of the refreshments (the bacon rolls were brilliant!) Thanks to all involved.
THE STROLL (April 6th 2019). Well done to the 20+ who joined the 3 hr stroll around Gresford. Good weather, good company and a bit of fund raising before the Grand National in the Plough. Still waiting for Doobs to buy a round with his winnings!
