Match Report |
GCC visited the oldest cricket ground in Wales (1840) for this fixture in a match that would determine the winners of the South Division 2011, would it be cricket or Quidditch? An epic battle was expected, Griffindor versus Slytherin, Potter versus Malfoy, Valdermort was at the gates....... both teams after the most powerful elder wand? Of course we wanted it perfectly possible to trace this teams course through history!
GCC had first chance to score, with Thompson, Mullock and Luke Sawney all scoring maximums (30) with their wands, Adam Sawney and Lewis were flying high, taking the score to 137 with the loss of just one wizard.
Parents sat in a neat row on the bank close to the rivers edge, holding up their shields, it looked from afar as if they were fending off Dementors with the petronus spells, or was it just raining? Little rest bite, a drink of beetle juice and the game was back on. Morris, Maclosky, L Sawney, Thompson (1), Roberts, Stubbs (1) and the Mighty Quinn all toiled away, but Adam Sawney wreaked havoc in the opposition line up taking three wickets in his own 'spinning spell', with the help of some quick fielding and the Mully dragon behind the stumps. Fielding impressed with Maclosky, Roberts, Quinn and Smith in the zone making excellent run saving interventions. Pont came up 43 runs short and in this match and GCC can look forward to playing the winners of the North Division in August with one league game to go. Congratulations to the whole squad who have made this possible over the sixteen matches so far. The team knew how to celebrate, 'Lets go and see 'Horrid Henry'....yeh lets..... |
