Match Report | Gresford arrived at Morda Road and asked the home team to bat first. A very young opening bowling partnership of Sam Cooper and Harry Morris did well under the pressure of early hitting from the Oswestry top order. A combination of sweepers on the boundary and good full bowling mean that boundaries dried up after the first five overs. Simon Perry (3 wickets) and Alex Morton (1 wicket) came on to further bring the run rate down. George Morris also found a consistent line in a decent spell. Alex Quinn took a wicket and then Cooper and Morris returned to bowl well at the end of the innings. Oswestry finishing on a daunting 222/9. James Griffin (31) and Andy Thomas (53 ret*) put on 98 with the help of some extras as Gresford got off to a good start. George Morris came in and hit 28 runs in very (very!) quick time. Losing one ball in a nearby garden. Then 4 Gresford players found themselves 'run out' as the reply faultered. However, Harry Morris played some good strokes to see Gresford home! Great experience for the young lads, bowling at such quality players - a very enjoyable game...and you can't beat apple crumble in a cricket tea!! |
