Match Report | WELSH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP CUP FINAL 2014 GRESFORD U13 Vs CARDIFF The final played on Newport CC that same afternoon was against a strong Cardiff CC side who elected to bat first. Their opening batsmen scoring 77, running some quick singles before Toby Bellis managed to run one of them out with some excellent fielding. Jack Cooper then took two wickets and Henry Soper bowled another before Cardiff reached 122-5. The hot afternoon sunshine coupled with the early start to South Wales, engergy levels understandibly started to drop in the away side. Nevertheless, other bowlers such as Jack Billington, Cam Evans, Dan Parry and Toby Bellis did an excellent job with Ewan Hoskins behind the stumps. Ryan and Etham McCarthy, Dan Jones, Tom Barlow were all fanstatic in the field The Gresford youngsters set about the run chase, but only Cameron Evans and Henry Soper managed to get in the runs as Gresford fell short of the total set. Nevertheless, a fantastic achievement for the young players of a small village club, to compete at this level against the resources of much larger areas. To come runners up in this competition and play against some of the best players in the country is a huge credit to both them and the area of North Wales that they have represented. John Glover, Glamorgan fast bowler was on hand to present the medals to each of the four finalist teams.
