Match Report | LATEST NEWS: Chris Froome wins the Tour de France!!!, did you know a goldfish can live to 40yrs old!! oh yes and a 'Thompson treat' as the U13 win a great game at Malpas!!! MALPAS Vs GCC U13'S - THURS 18TH JULY 2013 You anticipate a good game at Malpas and this one lived up to all expectation. GCC as the visitors batted first on what can be described as a 'well used wicket'. Rob Clark made a brief appearance at the crease before being run out. This theme seemed to repeat itself with three of the next four batsmen going the same way with Zak Dobie (18) and Ryan Williams (16). However, the constant was skipper Sam Thompson who retired on 33* with six boundaries in his innings. Dan Parry then put 20 more on the total and looked well set until he lifted one too much and was caught. Sam Postle made a quick fire 12* and Sam Rogers (1) brought up the total to 134 off 20 overs. A pleasing aspect was the number of runs that were scored in areas that we had been practising in the training sessions, so well done for that boys, however running between the wickets?????????? Hard outfield, short boundary on one side and the Malpas team up for the game would ensure that this was going to be a context. Henry Soper opened the bowling and took 2-10 of his three over spell. Ryan Williams went for 0-7 off his two overs. Toby Bellis 0-12, Jack Cooper 0-6, Ryan McCarthy 0-12, Sam Postle 1-7, Tomos Williams 0-7 as well as two run outs accounted for the wickets with the exception of Sam Thompson who took four wickets for three runs in his three over spell. The game came down to the last over and Malpas down tho their last batsmen, one however was the big hitting R McMinnin, who had retured to the crease undefeated (35) as the rest of his team mates had lost their wickets. The maths were simple, 20 to win off the last over for Malpas and the big hitter in........who could the skipper turn to?? Zak Dobie was the man, the first two balls were dots, Malpas were desparate to get the big hitter on strike, GCC fielders stood firm knowing the risky run must come. The Malpas boys shouting from the boundary, they were in no doubt that they could get the result, parents were pacing. Sure enough third ball they had to go, Sam Rogers with a good piece of fielding, the ball in to Clark behind the stumps and the bails were off in a flash, Malpas lost their last wicket. Great game and well done to both teams the atmosphere was excellent. Thats why we do lots of sessions on fielding drills, for games like this where it makes the difference. As Sir Dave Brailsford says,"small margins, work on the small margins"!!!!!! Must not forget, the ice creams at the end of the match, so the Malpas hospitality matched up to the cricket......
