Match Report | ROGERS ROCKS AS GWERSYLLT TAKE ON GRESFORD AT THE PARK - 11TH JULY 2013 Gresford batted fist and after the two openers had a bit of a wobble and were back in the hutch before you could say 'anyone want the last chocolate chip cookie', Zak Dobie got stuck into the runs led the way with an undeafeated 33*, hitting seven fours to boot. Tomos Roberts 27* just kept the run rate ticking overs at the other end. Dan Parry (7),looked set with his counterpart Sam Postle (21). who was run out trying to move the score along as the overs ticked by. Henry Soper continued his good form with 11 retired, and Ryan MaCarthy scored 3* before retiring. Toby Bellis was next in and scored a quick fire 5, whilst Sam Rogers on debut stood at the other end poised for his chance. Last ball he gets the strike and what a strike it was, an almighty heave to the longest boundary giving him 3* and taking Gresford to a very competitive 139-4 off their 20 overs. With the summer having arrived a scorching evening, fielding was going to be tough. Would minds drift off as the Welsh Cup finals approach.......... Ten bowlers had two overs each. A Williams' at either end opened the bowling, Tomos and Ryan that is, but the batters stood firm. Henry Soper in a rich vein of form with the bat and ball then bowled his two overs, the first a maiden and the second a wicket maiden.... top bombing 'H'. Ryan McCarthy and Dan Parry then had a couple of overs each in the middle section of the innings. Ryan started well with a maiden and Dan clearly up for the contest ran in hard....perhaps a little too hard!! Toby put in a very solid shift with his two overs going for just eight runs. Poss then bowled his two, one a maiden and the other taking a wicket for just two runs, oh and a fine catch by 'Coops' to help him out. Jack Cooper then had his spell showing no ill effects of recent injury, normal service resumed with his first over a wicket maiden and his second going for just 3 runs. However, fielding getting a bit sloppy at this stage and concetration more on the 'chirping' than on the basics. Tomos Roberts bowled well for his two overs of varied spin and then the man on debut Sam Rogers to bowl the last two overs.... his figures were...wait for it two wickets (bowled) for just seven runs. This restricted Gwersyllt to 67 - 6 off their 20 overs. Zak also put in a solid performance with the gloves and gave very positive encouragement to the bowlers. |
