Match Report

1st game of the season and it was away to Gwersyllt, a tough start.
Gresford batted first, and facing the new ball was Jess and Mia. Starting well the girls strung together some great front foot hitting with fast feet between the wicket.
Mia showing excellent tip and run skills whilst Jess opted for picking the gaps splitting field and she lent over the ball.
The duo helped Gresford get a foot hold in the game, ready for the next pair to continue the hard work.
Next up Toby and Henry, another great partnership of clever batting.
Toby in his first ever Gresford under 9s game didn't look out of place as he put bat to ball time and time again.
Henry likewise batted with intelligence, using his experience to guide the ball with power making for some aggressive batting spreading the fielders all over.

Once again Gresford looked confidence as the boys added precious runs to a tight game.

Partners in crime Harry and Jack played a crucial role in the Gresford innings. The brothers set about there intentions from ball one, connecting sweetly shot after shot. Communication was key as calls of YES and NO could be heard all the way back in Gresford.
Jack led the way thundering the ball into the outfield hitting the first 4 of the day, a beautiful leg side glance topping the runs tally with 10.
Harry made sure he kept up with older brother, using the pace of the ball to nudge quick 1s and 2s, showing some good cricket.

Kathryn followed suit taking the ball on using her wealth of knowledge. Kathryn was able to move forward and backwards seamlessly to play the best shot possible. Helping Gresford continue there good form

Visakh and Ben had the difficult task of finishing off Gresfords innings well. The boys found there form quickly totaling up more runs for the scoreboard.
Visakh found success on the back foot waiting for the ball and cutting it towards the boundary line.
Ben took a more direct approach hitting over the top with some T20 style cricket. The pair finished off the innings well ensuring Gresford posted a worthy total.

Gresford came off the pitch with there heads held high, playing against an experienced side away from home posting a total of 221 for the host to chase down.

After a team talk and a few snacks Gresford were ready to take to te field again. This time with the ball in hand.
The important task of opening the bowling was left down to Toby. It didn't take long for Toby to find his line, bowling 2 superb overs the senior team would be happy with. Adding to this was Toby's first youth team wicket. Well done.

Up to lead the bowling attack next Henry, and he continued where Toby left off swinging the ball left to right as the batsmen struggled to play the excellent bowling. Coming close to hitting the wickets on more than one occasion Henry finished with some good bowling stats.

Next up stepped Jack and he continued the accurate bowling Gresford had started with. Ball by ball Jack homed in on the stumps, improving each time starting to worry the batsmen.

Visakh marked out his run up with purpose as he readied for his bowling assault. Some fantastic mixed bowling contained yorkers, faster balls, and slower balls, bamboozling the Gwersyllt batsmen earning himself 2 perfect wickets.

Kathryn had the tough task of keeping Gwersyllts best batsmen quiet, and she did her job well! Using the ball and her height Kathryn kept the ball tight to the stumps, great tactics to keep everyone on there toes.

Mia found her A game fast, showing good length bowling time and time again. Frustrating the batsmen who found it difficult to pass the Gresford fielders. Mia's efforts didn't go unrewarded her bowling figures were some of the best of the day.

Gresford were holding there own against a strong opposition.

Ben looked like he meant business as he took the ball, the pick of his balls a well deserved wicket in his second over. Ben put to good use his skills developed in training, accuracy, pace and bounce.

The last of the girls was next up, and WOW was it worth waiting for, first over a superb maidan with no runs or extras off Jess's bowling. Second over followed the same pattern great bowling lines paired with fast hands earnt Jess a wicket in the last over of the game.

Last but by no means least Harry strolled to the wicket, confident and ready to go to work. He equalled that of Gresfords bowlers keeping wides to a minimum, taking a crucial wicket in his first over. Another great spell of bowling echoing that of the team performance.

Gwersyllt finished ahead of Gresfords total posting 270, a fantastic effort from all the boys and girls kept Gresford in the game for a long time. Well done all.
