Match Report | Gresford 3rds travelled the short distance to Gwersyllt for their inaugural match in the newly created Sunday Development 3rds League East. After winning the toss, captain James Griffin decided to field. A tight opening spell from Ian Crumplin and an early wicket for Dan Griffin put the visitors in a strong position. Gwersyllt fought back with a quality half century from Sean Dodd, in quick time. Dodd hit Josh Thomas for 3 boundaries in his first over, but Thomas showed good spirit to fight back and takes Dodd's wicket. Gresford finished tightly thanks to a fiery spell from Sam Burke and a probing spell from Steve Daulby. Gwersyllt made 161-7. Special note must be made to 13 year old Harry Mahoney with a very tidy display behind the stumps.
In reply, Gwersyllts young attack made early inroads removing James Griffin and Mahoney early on. Matthew Soper managed to get a good start, punishing any lose deliveries. His innings was cut short on 21, falling victim to a stunning caught and bowled. Gresford's reply faltered but a hard fought 52no from Dan Griffin got Gresford past the 100 mark. Plenty to build on for the season ahead. |
