MALPAS U13 v GCC U13'S - Thursday 2nd August 2012

Skipper Matthew Thompson (15) and brother Sam (9) opened the batting for Gresford on a beautiful summers evening at Malpas!!!  They made a steady start before both getting out  quicker than Geraint Thomas' sprint qualifier.  Filer the 'finisher' then then came to the wicket and continued his rich vein of form and dispatched 30* runs before you could say 'team GB'.   I am sure he would be tested for chocolate overdose at the end of the match such was the speed of his innings. Tomos Roberts (7) and Rob Clark (10) looked set, but then Henry Soper came in and carried his bat until the end of the innings with an excellent 18*.  Ryan Mcarthy (5) Alex(1), Charlie  and Dan Parry all put on a great show, until the secret weapon appeared as last man, Henry was joined at the crease by younger brother Matthew.  This young man was hidden behind, helmet, leg pads, arm pads, thigh pads, gloves and was difficult to identify!! good job his big bruv knew him.  Henry and Matthew batted very sensibly until the end of the innings picking up singles and the odd boundary, taking the total to 137.

Fantastic to see six players from the younger age group punching above their weight, which bodes very well for next season.

Malpas then set about the run chase.  Skipper Thompson used ten bowlers in the attack.  Team GCC took six wickets in the 20 overs. Henry Soper struck first, then Sam Thompson, Rob Clark, Ryan Mcarthy, Matthew Soper and Dan Parry.  Malpas ended on 105-6 some 32 runs short.  Congratulations to our opponants for an excellent grass pitch for the boys to play on.

That completes and excellent season in the South Division with the team unbeaten in the league, well done to everyone.
