Match Report | FUN IN THE SUN AS TOMMY TURNS THE SCREW ON MARCHWIEL GCC U13's batted first and the Thompson brothers made a strong start. Matty made 22 before being caught, whilst Sam went on calmy to reach his third undefeated 30 of the season. Xan Filer (16), Zac Dobie (5), Will Roberts (15) all contributed to the score steaily climbing. Tomos Roberts (19 n/o) and Scott Hodgeson (1 n/o) took the total to a competitive 122 off 20 overs. The big question for the Coach was, 'could GCC take the 'Newport' experience onto the field?' Well the boys answered with an emphatic 'YES'. The 'mighty' Quinn opened up the bowling with a maiden and finished his 3 with 1-8. 'Life of Ryan' at the other end also opened up well, with 1-7 as a return. Alex Buxton put his disappointment with the bat behind him and returned figures of 1-8. Poss then bowled three tight overs with no extras given away. As the sun shone, yes the sun, the spin attack of Tommy Roberts and Sam Thompson was impressive. Tommy taking 2-4 and Sam 1-8, made most of the surface, bewildering the batters. Xan and Will bowled the final two overs giving very little away. The skipper behing the stumps was never quiet urging the team on. Fielding was very good with catches being taken by Buxton, and Postle. Hodgeson at mid off gave no quarter and Quinny could not be kept out of the match with some excellent fielding and run out with a direct hit. Marchwiels' young side were restricted to 47 off their 20 overs. Thanks must go to our opposition for preparing a grass wicket for the boys to play on and their hospitality. |
