Match Report

This was it last game of the season. Gresford 2 points clear at the top of the table, a win today secures top spot.

Gresford were keen to get going against an experienced Malpas side. Today's opening bowler Georgia Munro, the pressure was on the scene was set now Gresford had to deliver. Georgia flew through her first over, ball after ball wizzing past the Malpas bat. Then the inevitable, wicket ball on the 4th of the game, a great start made even better by Georgia's second over which saw a wicket madian bowled.

Malpas were on the back foot and Gresford didn't relent que ranija. His first over was fast made even trickier for the Malpas batsmen with the weather conditions, the pace on the ball skidded past the stumps as Ranija grew in confidence. One over and one run from the bat. Runs were hard to come by made even harder by the Gresford field. Catches from Georgia, Ranija and Jake made this an even greater task to achieve.

Fin Thomson a seasoned pro with the ball stepped into the frame. Over number one saw yet another Malpas wicket fall as the heavens started to open. Swinging the ball left and right Fin struck a further two times in his second over, pocketing an impressive 3 wickets for the evening.

The standards were as high as high as they come from the Gresford team, bowler after bowler hit the mark building extreme pressure on the batsmen. Iestyn Brockhurst was next to keep the bench mark high, a task successfully completed by the young right armer. Dot balls joined up in the book as Iestyn found his area's quickly. Not giving the batsmen an inch Iestyn grew ever closer to adding to Gresford' s wicket tally.

Each new bowler stepped up with the pressure on their shoulders to continue the positive destructive Gresford start. Calum Millington soaked up the pressure with ease, one over in and Calum's bowling stats were good to look at three wickets and two dot balls. Continuing what was turning into a bowling bonanza.

After his outstanding game last week with a man of the match performance behind him Jenson Vye looked at home in the under 11's team. Accurate bowling was yet again what the future star delivered. With the encouragement from his team to add Jenson went from strength to strength keeping Gresford on the front foot.

Bowler number 7 Dylan Renouf managed to fit two overs into his spell, and what a two overs they were. Over number one saw Dylan craft a wicket on his final delivery, reaching a pacey top speed. Over number two was the hardest of the game in worsening weather conditions Dylan ploughed on an was rewarded for his efforts another superb wicket taking out the batsmens off stump.

The last bowler of the evening was Jake Kershaw and boy was it worth waiting for. Jake found a good line from the off, making the batsmen work hard to keep the ball away from thrir stumps. This was one task to much though as Jake crept one between the bat and pad to add yet another wicket to Gresfords tally.

Gresford had taken 11 wickets in just 12 overs and were on for a new team record before the weather decided to intervine. The rain worsened and Gresford made the decision to abandon the game. All was safe though as every game in the area was rained off making Gresford the league champions for the 2nd year in a row.

Well done to all the boys and girls who have been apart of a strong team in the 2017 season.
