Match Report | The title race was on. This week the challengers Brymbo CC. Gresford the away side needed to continue there good run of form. This evenings openers Ollie Drago and Dylan Renouf. Dylan batted first facing some tough bowling. Ball by ball Dylan dug in standing his ground. Just what was needed. Ollie used his power eying up the ball before crashing it into the outfield. The pair finished their 4 overs with the team on 209. 2nd pair into bat Lewis Tansley and Matty Hunter aimed to add runs to Gresfords total. The pair saw off 4 overs without loosing a wicket an achievement in itself. Lewis guided each shot into space taking quick singles at every opportunity. Matty pushed Gresford' s total on further connecting nicely with two balls sending them both over the boundary line. 8 overs in and the total was growing. 234 runs with the loss of 2 wickets. Lewis Roberts and Fin Thomson took on the middle overs, and they meant business. The pair looked like IPL professionals as they took advantage of the Brymbo bowling. Lewis was first on the attack finishing on 13 runs including some aggressive front foot batting which saw two 4s race across the boundary line. Fin mirrored the aggressive approach as he looked to push the team's total on further. Using his hand eye co-ordination Fin timed front front drive after front foot drive ticking the score board over. 12 overs down and with another pair not loosing a wicket the score stood at 259 runs. Last up Archie Hancock and Harry Mahoney, their goal to push the score on further. Archie finished 2nd top run scorer behind Lewis Roberts thanks to some good middle running, a well ran three the highlight of his batting spell. Harry got ball on bat consistently nudging the ball on the leg and the off side with ease. Shot of his innings, well timed pull shot for 4. 16 overs with the loss of 3 wickets saw Gresford finish on 268 runs, a good solid total but the bowling had to be good. Tight bowling and wickets was the order of the day. Gresford set out to forfil the task at hand. Archie opened up the bowling taking a wicket second ball of the game, all down to some pacey accurate line and length. Hancock's 2 overs were textbook no wides and a wicket to show for his efforts. Dylan opened from the top end and added to Gresford' s bowling statistics. First over was perfect no wides and not a run off the bat. Second over saw Renouf rewarded, bowling a peach of a ball the batsman was beaten all ends up taking out middle stump. Lewis Tansley piled the pressure on the batsmen, not giving them any width. Lewis continues to pepper off stump with some quick bowling. Tansley's two overs saw only 3 runs from the bat. Lewis Roberts two overs saw not a single run from the bat. Putting his bowling skills to good use Lewis flighted the ball above the batsmen's eye line, frustrating Brymbo on there quest for runs. Harry Mahoney looked to be getting to grips with bowling off spin. The second and third ball in his opening over resulting in well deserved wickets, pitching the ball in great area's letting the spin take out the stumps. His second over saw Mahoney add to his wicket chase with another great ball. Fin Thomson found his line and length straight away. Steady and accurate Fin once again bowled ball after ball on the stumps coming close to the wickets on numerous occasions. The batsmen were restricted further as the total was getting out of there reach. Ollie Drago' s two overs were as good as they come, 4 runs from the bat no extra' s and a wicket. Drago used his height well pushing the ball through at pace and past the bat. Great spell and the figures reflect that. Brymbo finished on 203 loosing 8 wickets. Gresford continue there winning streak for another week. Well done to all the boys again today.
