First Vs Second in the league it was set up to be the biggest game of the season so far.

Gwersyllt top by 2 points a must win for the Gresford side.

The boys turned up all ready to go and up for a tough fixture battle. Gresford bowled first and got off to a great start all thanks to Ranija, his figures for the first over consisted of 2 wickets putting the league leaders on the back foot. Ranija's 2nd and 3rd over saw more wickets fall ending his spell with an impressive 4 wickets.

Next up to continue the good start was Lucas, first ball and a wicket what a start! The rest of his two overs tied the batsmen up in their crease allowing for Gresford to continue on the front foot.

Dylan continued his great form with the ball, taking two wickets in his second over. His bowling was backed up with some tight fielding from the Gresford side, all thanks to bowling a perfect off side line.

Archie took the new ball next and with some encouragement from his team mates proceeded with his overs. Second ball and Gresford strike again, Archie Hancock with a great delivery beating the batsman all ends up and resulting in the wickets flying backwards. The tight bowling had restricted Gwersyllt to 192 from 4 overs a great start but the Gresford side needed to keep their composure.

Oscar was given the ball next, bowling with confidence he looked at home with the ball in hand 5 dot balls in his first over frustrated the batsmen. In his second over Oscar was rewarded with a well deserved wicket.

Next up to bowl Fin, and his overs backed up the teams great start, bowling tight lines homing in on the stumps every ball Fin gave the batsmen no room to manoeuvre. This theme continued in his second over until Fin struck gold with a superb ball taking the top of off stump out.

Harry was the final bowler of the day, bowling his off spin Harry set off finding his areas quickly. Taking the pace off the ball Harry left all the hard work for the batsmen to do, dot balls summed up a consistent spell from the young off spinner.

Matty kept wicket once again for the hosts ensuring that the ball did not pass the barrier he created with his gloves saving Gresford some crucial runs.

Gwersyllt finished on 215 loosing 10 wickets in the process. The match was set up, Gresford had done all they could with the ball it was now time to find some form with the bat.

The daunting task of opening up fell in the hands of Dylan and Oscar. The duo played a great innings working together, The highlight of Dylan's innings came from a well timed leg side glance which sped away over the boundary line. Oscar followed suit finishing on a respectable 12 runs. including a further 2 fours to add to the pairs total. 4 overs down and Gresford were on 221 runs.

Gresford had taken the lead thanks to a great start from Oscar and Dylan, but the game wasn't over yet the visitors were bowling well.

Second pair Matty and Lucas looked to protect the total, the pair worked together communicating well to capitalise on their running between the wickets. Lucas used his foot work to get out of any trouble with the good length balls, easing the ball into the outfield time and time again. Matty rattled the ball over the boundary line for a well timed four to add to an already growing total.

Gresford extended their lead to 231 with 8 over left in the innings.

Fin and Archie padded up next, facing first Fin and what a way to open up his innings first ball four runs. This continued throughout his innings as Fin crept up to 14 runs. Archie followed the positive batting from his partner, finishing on 15 runs including some well timed front foot shots powering the ball past the fielders.

Gresford were now up to 277 runs with one pair to go.

Ranija and Harry were to close up proceedings. Ranija looked in form as he pushed the ball about the field, splitting the fielders adding two fours to the total finishing up on 16 runs. Harry timed the ball from delvery number one, using his cricketing brain knowing the hosts were in the lead Harry set out blocking the balls on his stumps protecting the total that had been built up.

16 overs 310 runs what a victory. 3 games to go and Gresford were now the new league leaders.

Player of the match-

Ranija's batting bowling and fielding all added up to a super game of cricket. 4 wickets 16 runs and some crucial outfield stops.
