Brymbo

Another home game for the Gresford Boys, and this fixture couldn't be bigger. Local derby time get on the edge of your seat for this one Brymbo Vs GCC.

The hosts take to the field ready to put Brymbo under pressure. Opening the bowling Ranija, 2 overs 1 wicket 8 runs. Good figures against some experienced batting.

Calum was given the new ball next, line and length was the order of the day and he certainly delivered that. Seam position perfect helped to stop the runs.

Third bowler of the evening Lewis Roberts, only the one extra from his two overs. Bowling off stump line time and time again frustrating Brymbo.

Team skipper Archie Hancock needed to keep up the high standard of bowling, and he did exactly that 2 very tight over kept the runs to a minimum once again. Helped along with a wicket in his second over.

Matty Hunter kept the ball bouncing, his fast paced action made for some good bowling. Runs from the bat once again kept to a minimum.

Ella was doing it for the girls, using her height to speed the ball up. Lots of dot balls helped the Gresford side out piling the pressure back on the bat.

Lewis Tansley warmed up ready to go, bowling two of the best over of the night. The message of line and length clearly paid of as his bowling was on the mark every ball.

Oscar Ghattas the pick of the bowling taking 2 wickets against some competitive batting, slowing his bowling down and focusing on where to pitch the ball.

16 overs 256 runs 3 wickets. It was going to be a gritty match.

After some refuelling Gresford padded up.

The notorious job of opening up fell on Calum Millington and Matty Hunters shoulders. Calum played the perfect opening role defending his wicket just as a local derby demanded. The other end Matty wound up his shots, shot of his innings a graceful four rolling over the boundary line. Ella Hancock helped out the opening pair coming in and reinforcing the defensive effort.  Front foot defensive text book.

4 overs 14 runs steady start for the batsmen to build on.

Next in Archie and Lewis T. This duo wasnt hanging around bith finding the biundary line. Lewis T playing the shot of the match against some pacey bowling rocking back and attacking the ball with a tasty pull shot. Archie wanted his say aswell and definitely had it, three 4s and a quick single drew the Gresford side ever closer to the 256 posted by Brymbo.

231 from 8 overs scores swaying in Gresford s favour.

Next to the centre, Oscar Ghattas and Ranija. The pair continued Gresfords chase. After a slow start the pair eased into their innings. Oscar perfected his tip and run technique, scoring quick singles to keep the board ticking over. Ranija assisted with 2 great leg side fours and an array of drives and cut shots, spreading the field.

243 from 12 overs.

It fell to Harry Mahoney and Lewis Roberts to end the run chase. It was a nail biter indeed. 14 runs needed from 4 overs of bowling. The pair started well as Harry dispatched two 4s in over one and with a wide bowled reduced the total needed to 4 runs. A crucial blow in the next over as Brymbo hit back with a wicket flipped the game in the balance. Lewis steadied the ship showing the Gresford fight within him, blocking the good balls and getting some needed runs off the wider balls. It all came down the the last over Harry and Lewis just needed to see out the bowling to see the side over the line. They did just that. Gresford finishing on 262 from the 16 overs. Winning  the game by 6 runs

And breath well done everyone a great game of cricket and  a much needed win to push Gresfords table position up.

Player of the match- Lewis Tansley bowling was accurate and fast. His batting stole the show against good bowling playing the correct shots every time. Well done.
