Gresford under 11s finally were able to get there campaign under way, and where better to do so that at home. The challengers Bersham CC.
The Gresford boys turned up ready to dust of the bat and ball and play some competitive cricket.
Skipper Archie Hancock led his side out for the very first time.
The honour fell to Dylan Renouf to open the Gresford CC' s 2017 title chase . First 5 balls all dots can't ask for much more from the young seam bowler.
From the Clappers lane end Calum to open proceedings following in Dylan's footsteps. His two overs nice and accurate, as the batsmen struggled to find the gaps in the mighty GCC field.
Mr Ghattas was first change bowler, Oscar's two overs were good. Only two runs coming from the bat saw the hosts clinch an early mental victory.
Matty Hunter turned up the heat with his spell, the ball skidded past the batsmen on more than one occasion straight in to wicket keeper Harry's hands.
Iestyn took up to the stage, bowling some great deliveries at the Bersham Boys in question. Coming close to the stumps on more than one occasion.
Lewis T was given the ball next by the skip and told to work his magic. And he did two more tight overs to the GCC side.
Lewis Roberts took the ball next, and his figures were the pick of the lot. 2 overs no extras 4 runs from the bat. All down to some intelligent bowling.
Last to bowl Archie and he led by example his two overs saw only 3 runs coming from the bat. Made up with lots of dot balls.
Tale of the half Gresford struggled to keep wides and no balls to a minimum bowling 18 wides and 2 no balls. Totalling 40 runs to the batting side. Bersham finished on an impressive 285 with the loss of no wickets. Game on.
Oscar and Iestyn opening up the batting for GCC. Oscar playing some really great drives found the boundary line timing a perfect drive finishing on 7. Iestyn played a cool and calm opening support role not giving away his wicket and knocking the ball around.
Calum Dylan and Lewis T shared the 2 partnership. Dylan again using his skills from practice playing the best shot possible to the ball he was bowled. Calum looked solid again not letting the ball breach his bat and bat, confident and patient. Lewis continued the partnership in the same fashion, making sure connection with the ball was always good.
8 overs 42 runs, good start.
Next in Archie and Matty, the duo faced some good bowling lines and were able to keep the ball away from there stumps. Runs for Matty came in the form of quick singles using his best asset his pace. Archie mirrored Matty' s batting style opting for the tip ad run. The pair communicated well.
The score stood at 261 with 4 overs left, a lot still to do.
Step in to the mix Harry and Lewis Roberts. Lewis looked like a seasoned professional using a well rounded batting game to find gaps in the field, playing some great cricket. Harry the pick of the batting finished on a whopping 27 runs including six fours. The Bersham lads scattered quickly trying to stop the bombardment of aggressive leg side shots.
Gresford finished on an impressive 314 run. Winning the game in style.
Player of the Match- His wicket keeping was on form and his batting made for some T20 entertainment. Harry Mahoney well done !!
