Third Time Lucky for Carmel as Gresford Capitulate

After posting totals below 80 in the two trips to Pen-y-gelli in the previous two seasons, Gresford's bowling could not bail out the batting for a third season in a row.

The game started with a procession of 'athletes' walking back and forth. No this was not the olympic torch relay, but gresford's batsmen heading back to the pavillion. The innings closed on 56 all out in just 16 overs, the only highlight being George Morris not breaking Carmel's electric scoreboard. In all seriosuness, 70 would've been a reasonable score given the conditions and Gresford will feel disappointed not to see out the 20 overs.

If the batting was dreadful, the bowling and fielding certainly wasn't. Danny Williams couldn't have put more effort into his opening burst and Gareth Bell, similarly, gave very little away. Carmel 21/1 off 7. Carmel then began to falter. Simon Perry and Chris Ellwood came on to trigger a collapse of 6 wickets for 9 runs. However, at 40/8 Carmel put on the one partnership they needed to fall over the finishing line (in 19 overs).

Gresford must learn quickly how to bat first in 20 over matches if they are to make it 3 promotions in 3 years. Hitting straight and running hard is a must!
