Match Report | Mullock Hits Winning Runs in Thriller! For the 2nd week in succession the 2nd XI managed to get a game in and similar to last week they faced strong opposition; this time in the form of Hawarden Park. On a hot, sunny day it was inevitable that Gresford would be fielding first. Hawarden started off well and Jack Bunkell was rewarded in his 7th over of a tight spell with the first wicket. James Williams then removed the other opener lbw and Dan Griffin then took two important wickets in as many overs. Simon Perry then took two wickets in one over to put Gresford on top. But the visitors finished strongly and totalled 180/9 at the break. Gresford's reply couldn't have started any worse. Steve Griffin and Jack Bunkell departing with the score on 1. Gresford rebuilt with Ian Weaver and James Griffin who put on 100 in 31 overs. Needing 78 from the last 13 overs with Perry and Weaver began to play some shots. Weaver was run out attempting a 2 with 12 needed off the last 2 overs. A couple of boundaries eased the tension, with Alex Morton hitting a well timed four to leave Gresford needing 1 off 4 balls. Morton was then bowled and Dan Griffin followed next ball. Chris Mullock then came in and kept his composure as the batsmen scampered a quick single to make it two wins from two! |
