Match Report | Gresford Vs Malpas If you could write a script for a dramatic finish, i'm pretty sure the story of Gresford's season would win an Oscar!! Last game of the season and it all came down to the final game. Rivals Gwersyllt looked to have a easy game, four points the result for them meaning Gresford needed to win to hold on to top spot. The opponents, Malpas 3rd in the league were on a good run of wins. Gresford took to the field first with the bit between their teeth, knowing the importance of the game the team set out to make a statement. Opening the bowling Wesley Evans, the ball hooped in the air, as both batsman and umpire looked on for the 2 spectacular overs. W. Evans took 2 wickets in his spell. Bowler number 2, F. Clegg continued the tight lined bowling, working hard with the ball getting his pay off in his final over a classy looking wicket. C.Grey keen to stamp his mark on proceeding took the ball. Gresford were impressing everyone as yet another bowler tied down the dangerous looking batting attack. 4th change R.Singh, after a few looseners found his line, striking gold in over number 2, giving middle stump a cracking head ache. The youngster of the side R. Abeysinghe wasn't letting the older members leave him out of the fielding party bowling not one extra in his two overs. Z. Cabral followed suit no extra's and two wickets, made for good reading figures, fantastic spell. S.Hawkey seized his opportunity with the ball, the accuracy was there and so were the dot balls. D.Cabral after dusting himself off from his wicket keeping duties, found his line finishing the game in style with 2 wickets from the final two deliveries. Gresford restricted the away side to 227 runs. Time to bat. Opening C. Grey and S. Hawkey, 4 overs 11 runs without the loss of a wicket, got Gresford off to a flying start. The pair didnt loose one wicket between them showing their grit and determination. Next up Z. Cabral and R. Abeysinghe, entered top gear with their batting performance. Zoe finishing on 5 runs and Ranija on 10 another great partnership. Third pair to the wicket R. Singh and F.Clegg just needed to keep the score board ticking over. The duo batting well playing some classy shots Rohan topping the score board with 11 runs Freddie not far behind. The final pair, W.Evans and D.Cabral entered the middle with work to do. The next four overs were outstanding, scoring a total of 42 runs, Wes finishing on 18 and Dan on 24 hitting 4 4's each and Dan edging the innings with a well timed 6. Gresford finished on 282, another good performance. Players of the match- Wes and Dan impressed all this week with the batting fireworks and outstanding bowling. |
