Match Report | Gresford Vs Gwersyllt Biggest game of the season so far, top of the table clash, Gresford Vs Gwersyllt and it was a belter. Gresford turned up and for the first time this season opened the batting. The pair selected for the tricky task of opening Tom Adamson and Seb Hawkey. From the off Gwersyllt came out firing bowling tight lines, but that didn’t deter our opens as they put bat on ball creating a mighty wall. Tom and Seb mirrored each other’s innings finishing on 7 each including a 4, pacey 2 and cheeky single. Loosing just the one wicket Gresford got off to a steady start all down to sensible batting. Ethan and Morgan were tasked with the duty of the 2nd partnership, and set out to compete there job in style. Ethan was first to strike pushing the ball for 4 on two occasion’s finishing up on 9. Morgan after a shaky start, settled in and took the bowling apart smashing two 4s and running 2 singles. Walking out to the middle for the 3rd innings was Freddie and first time appearance Ranija. Freddie starting the engine this time scoring an impressive 15 runs, confusing the fielding side with his great selection of shots. Ranija looked at home, playing his trade mark pull shot that the likes of Joe Root would be jealous of. The last to put their stamp on proceeding were Wesley Evans and Daniel Cabrel. Boy did they mean business, Wesley not bothering to get his eye in, destroyed first ball sending it racing for 4. This was only the start as he racked up a credible 24 runs. Dan wasn’t letting Wes have all the fun, playing by far the best front foot drive of the game, letting the speed of the ball do all the work, his total 14 runs. The partnership led Gresford to 314 runs with the loss of just 4 wickets. The pads came off, well all apart from the wicket keepers, and the Gresford army geared up to defend their total. The honour of bowling the first over fell to Mr Cabrel, allowing just 1 runs from it. His second over wasn’t far behind only conceding 5. Sebastian turned his arm over next, a wicket with his first ball set the tone for his two tight overs. Letting only 2 runs in total come off the bat. Selected next to stop the Gwersyllt charge was Ethan. After a few warm up balls, Ethan found his line and length again only allowing the batsmen to score 2 runs. Ranija was the next tasked with the difficult role of quieting the batsmen. What a spell he had, not one wide bowled in his two overs. Putting the pressure straight back on the opposition. Morgan decided to bowl next, skidding the ball past the batsmen on more than one occasion. Freddie was next up, again not a wide bowled in his 2 overs. Impressing everyone with some good deliveries. Wicket keeper Tom had his turn at the batsmen. Floating the ball up above the eye line of the players was a tactic that seemed to work, as he tied down the pair. Last spell fell in the hands of Wes, with the daunting task of the last two overs he set about his work. First over nice and tight just as expected, second over Wes struck gold taking his first wicket and carried on bowling with shear pace. And like that the game was all done and dusted. The boys swarmed around Simon for the result and turned to a relieved umpire with smiles on their faces. Restricting Gwersyllt to 267 led Gresford to a 27 run victory. Man or should I say Men of the match this week, was presented to Wes and Dan. All because of their superb batting partnership, intelligent fielding and great bowling. That’s not to say that all 6 other players didn’t pull their weight, as it was a complete team effort. Well done boys. |
