Match Report | Gresford Vs Bersham After a frustrating few weeks without a fixture, the night finally arrived for yet another spectacular Gresford Cricket Club game. The opponents Bersham CC. The Gresford boys arrived in there dribs and drabs all ready for another T 16 over battle. Gresford took to the field first readying themselves for a bowling bonanza. Wes opened the bowling in perfect style with a maiden, his second over just as effective with only a run scored. Luke’s two overs also went for just 1 run flighting the ball with confidence. Ethan bowled 2 tight overs taking a crucial wicket in the second, we can’t forget his amazing catch in the field taking it as cool as a cucumber. Morgan bowled tight lines which paid off when the stumps dispersed on two occasions, both in his second rhythmic over. Rohan skidded the ball past the batsmen on more than one occasion taking the stumps out 3 times, and nearly doing the same with the batsman. Sebastian's accuracy was too much for the Bersham batsmen taking 4 fantastic wickets, with a near hat trick in his final over. Matty's overs saw yet another wicket fall restricting the batsmen to minimal runs, missing the stumps a further two times by millimetres. Freddie wasn’t keeping quiet either not letting the batsmen score a run from the bat ensuring that his off stump line and length was on the money. Dan’s over was as good as they come 5 dot balls followed by a single run from the last ball. Again a superb effort by Tom both vocally and physically, putting his body on the line for the team yet again. Thankfully no injuries this time Nick!! The total posted by the away side 211 all down to some athletic fielding and accurate bowling. Sent out to the crease first was the duo of Freddie and Tom. The pair showed great awareness communicating well and selecting there shots with precision. Freddie exhibited his power with some thundering shots both off the front and back foot and Tom demonstrated how effective picking the gaps can be placing two satisfying boundaries for 4. The score after the four overs Gresford were on 217 what a start!! The job wasn’t done yet though loose a few wickets and all could change. Luke and Morgan were next up bouncing off each other perfectly, Luke using his cricketing knowledge tipping and running, placing the ball in space and Morgan letting his bat have some fun, using some quick hand movement to attack the ball. Matty and Ethan strolled out to have their turn at scoring some runs, both ran extremely well between the wickets. Matty playing two beautiful pull shots scattering the Bersham boys, and Ethan with a few shots that would rival Alastair Cook for technique, driving the ball and looking like a professional in the process. Sebastian and Rohan came into bat next after being told to protect your wickets the pair set about with the task. Rohan showing his ability keeping out some really good bowling not letting a ball get to his stumps and Sebastian wound up his arms again swinging and connecting with the ball on a few occasions including a pacey four. The last in the hot seat Wes and Dan despite the skipper’s reservations about closing the innings, the pair finishing it in style. Dan showed superb technique with every shot played using his feet to get to the pitch of the ball. Wes smashed two fours to the boundary finishing top run scorer with 11 runs leading by example. The Gresford boys finished on 279 only loosing just 3 wickets in the process. Credit to those players who fielded for the away side, I know it’s not an easy task but all put 100% in to it well done. Looking forward to next week’s fixture |
