Gresford Vs Llay

First game of the season and the weather was on our side (for once). The mighty GCC turned up all looking the part biting at the bit to get going. The opponents Llay CC.
After a quick team talk the Llay batsmen were good to go, Skipper (Wesley) and Vice Skipper (Dan) led the troops out on to the field. Wes set the standard in the first over of the game going for just 3 runs and taking an all important wicket. Rohan continued Gresfords good fortune at the opposite end taking a further wicket to add to the teams tally. Next up to turn there arm over Sebastian and what a spell he had!! Taking 3 wickets in his 3 overs. Freddie wasn’t letting the Llay batsmen enjoy their time at the crease either, taking a further wicket bowling with real pace. Dan added yet another wicket to Gresfords growing list, bowling tight lines as per usual letting the ball do the work. Tom Clarke although not taking any wickets bowled as asked NICE AND STRAIGHT. Luke pocketed his wicket for the day, having the formidable task of bowling at the death (and doing it excellently). Llay were restricted to 256 runs in total Gresford taking 9 wickets !!
We cant end the fielding report without mentioning Tom Adamson who kept extremely well. Throwing himself around for the full 16 overs putting in a great shift ending up with more than a few battle wounds.

The hard part was still to come 256 not an easy target. To start the innings was the partnership of Rohan and Fred. The pair started well playing some cracking shots. Freddie planting his front foot showing everyone how a front foot drive should be played and Rohan with a T20 style innings swinging his bat to the moon and back connecting with some powerful strokes. After 4 overs Gresford were on 20. Next to the crease Tom Clarke and Luke, with the words "protect your stumps" ringing in their ears both exhibited grit and determination keeping the Llay bowlers at bay setting the innings up nicely for Tom Adamson and Sebastian. The duo weren’t lying down without a fight with runs still needed they set out to the task ahead. Sebastian smacked four 4's to the boundary dispersing the fielders in a mad dash finishing on an impressive 18. Tom Adamson played the perfect support role tapping the ball around with real confidence, playing one of the shots of the game a near perfect leg side drive.
The final pair Dan and Wes still needed to finish off what the boys had started 16 needed from 4 overs. Credit to both the skipper and vice who kept there nerves under wraps (unlike myself and a few spectators), finishing the game in style communicating with one another and running extremely well between the wickets.

Gresford finished on 263 beating Llay by just 7 runs. A close but well deserved victory. Well done everyone just the start we wanted.

Man of the match-Sebastian for his outstanding bowling figures complemented by a just as good batting total.
