Gresford Vs Chirk
A glorious day for cricket, the sun was out and the players were arriving.
With Chirk 2 players short, two Gresford lads volunteered very kindly to play for the opposition team. Ollie and Ethan batted last pair against some tough bowling. Both finished second highest in the runs total for the batting team. Ollie driving the ball into space and Ethan using the pull shot to full effect.
Opening the bowling for Gresford was Matty his two overs were quick and accurate only one run from the bat and a wicket to add to his figures Gresford’s start couldn’t have been much better.
Ranija equalled the good start going for just two runs from the bat, bowling no wides and taking a wicket to finish of his spell.
The competition heated up as Archie started his spell a wicket in his first over and just one run in his second kept the ball rolling for Gresford.
Rhys followed up with two overs keeping Gresford in the driving seat, making sure that the batsmen had to work for their runs.
Callum answered the cries of the players on the pitch ‘nice and straight Callum’ sending the ball to the other end not letting the batsmen score a single run from the bat.
Jenson picked up another 2 wickets for the team, his bowling was straight and accurate just as practiced, and again no runs from the bat.
Ella’s overs were impressive, her smooth action helped the ball glide down the batsmen making it tricky for any runs to be scored.
Finally Harry who’s over was a summary of the Gresford innings, on the dot with just the one wide and no runs scored of the bat.
A very good bowling performance led the away side to 242 runs.
Opening the batting this week Jenson, Ella and Matty. The start was good top scorer out of the trio was Jenson, showing great improvement in his first season of cricket connecting with the ball inviting the opportunity to run. Ella looked confident bat on ball was the order of the day some good shots led to some even better running between the wickets. Matty was the last of the openers and continued the good start, finding the gaps and using them to his advantage.
The second pair of Ranija and Rhys was the powerhouse innings of the day Ranija finishing on a whopping 29 runs and Rhys on a just as good 11 runs. Five fours helped Ranija to his total, quick singles was Rhys’s approach.
Archie and Callum didn’t let the pair before them take all the credit as they opened up shop. Archie pinged the ball around using his technique to aid his innings. Callum batted with speed using his hand speed to find and connect with the ball.
Harry and Lewis were the last to take to the crease. Harry’s innings was another Gresford masterclass three 4’s led his total to 14 runs, pure power helped the ball fly over the boundary. Lewis found form driving the ball straight and along the ground just as practiced in training. His calling was superb deciding when and when not to run.
The duo of Ollie and Ethan bowled extremely well, Ollie finding the perfect spot to place the ball nice and full giving the batsmen a headache. Ethan bowling lots of dot balls and frustrating the Gresford Batsmen.
Gresford posted 303 runs with the loss of just five wickets a very good performance and a very good win.
Player of the match- Ethan and Ollie not only did the volunteer to play for the opposition but the pair batted with confidence and bowled in style putting 100% in.
