Match Report

Gresford Vs Malpas Another Sunday morning another Gresford under 9’s game. This week Gresford hosted Malpas.   Opening the bowling this week Lewis Tansley his two overs were nice and steady, 6 runs scored from the bat, a good start. Jenson was the next Gresford player to take the ball in his hand, his spell mirrored that of Lewis’s good start 2 overs just going for 6 runs. Callum was next up to storm in and deliver the ball, some accurate bowling in his first over saw no wides and only two in his second, another good Gresford spell. Kam was next up his two overs were as good as they come with no wides Kam piled the pressure onto the batsmen. Ella responded to Kam’s good spell with no runs in her first over, she followed up with a second over that just went for 2 runs. Ollie found his line nice and quick floating the ball up to the stumps at the other end his two overs went for 3 runs from the bat. Dylan only bowled the one over, but it was a good one 1 run from the bat restricted the run flow. Matty who’s over went for again just one run bowled nice tight lines. Hector’s over was accurate only one wide with 4 dot balls impressive and finally Oscar’s over which nice and quick with some real pace flying past the bat, only the two no balls affected his figures. Malpas finished on 281 a high total which was going to be hard to chase down.

Gresford’s turn to bat opening Ollie and Hector, three overs went in a flash some steady batting from the pair saw Gresford to 19 runs, Hector placing the ball in the gaps and Ollie tipping and running.

Callum and Kam took the teams total to 40 runs, Callum placing some really nice leg side shots and Kam showing good technique driving the ball with precision. Another good partnership.

Dylan and Oscar were the stand out batting pair of the morning, Oscar finishing on 20 runs and Dylan not far behind on 12. Oscar used his power to blast the ball over the boundary line, Dylan took a more relaxed approach using the ball of the ball teasing the fielders.

Jenson and Ella took to the middle next, good bowling lines tied the pair up as they struggled to get the really quick bowling away. When the chances came the pair took them. Jenson playing some really crafty shots with his bat and Ella using her height advantage to get to the pitch of the ball and connect.

Matty and Lewis were the last pair to bat, the pace of Matty was a real asset for his game as he played the ball into the gaps and sprinted for the ones and twos. Lewis took a different approach playing the ball over the top of the players allowing more time to run. The duo batted well.

Unfortunately Gresford only managed to reach 265 falling only a few runs short of the target, a really strong effort which led to a nail biting game. Well Done everyone.

Player of the match was awarded to Oscar for his batting performance which included 4 fours. Really good innings to watch
