Match Report

Derby day, and it sure felt like it. The atmosphere electric, the players raring to go!!
The opponents Brymbo CC.
The peaceful Sunday morning was soon shattered by the Gresford players taking to the field. Looking the part and sounding it the game commenced.
Opening bowler Jake Kershaw had the tricky task of setting the tone for the game, bowling good lines helped the Gresford side settle into some rhythm.
Bowling partner Oliver Hawkey replied to Jakes good start, taking the first wicket of the game. Ending up with only three runs from the bat in his two overs.
Next to take the lime light Archie Hancock, the bowling action smooth, the overs slick, another spell for minimal runs.
Older sister Ella Hancock, after some encouraging words from little bro struck gold as Gresford claimed there second wicket of the innings. Ella hovered up another Brymbo wicket in her second over, showing some impressive bowling figures.
Lewis Roberts warmed up his bowling arm next. Looking the business Lewis got stuck into his work, bowling a fantastic wicket maiden first over, followed by another maiden in his second. Fast straight and accurate just what the doctor ordered!!
Jenson Vye stepped up as cool as a cucumber to take on the batsmen. Only 2 runs in his spell, following on from the teams good start.
Debutant Callum Millington had his chance to shine, and did so with two tight overs. Turning his arm over bowling on the money textbook.
Josh Tifase the final of the Gresford army to bowl, carried on what was a solid Gresford performance, matching team mates not letting Brymbo score a run from the bat.
Sunday morning was off to a good start. Minimal wide’s, tight lines and plenty of wickets reduced the Brymbo total to 246 runs.

The heat was turning up as the second innings began. The daunting task of starting the batting fell to Callum Millington and Jenson Vye. Pressure rose as the first wicket fell, a good ball hard to keep out. That didn’t deter the duo though, as they settled in to there stride. Jenson picked the right ball to play and the right ball to block, showing another side of his expansive game. Callum made sure ball met bat, sending the ball racing towards the boundary. 4 overs down and a good start curtesy of Mr Vye and Mr Millington.
Keeping the ball rolling Jack, Oliver and Josh. The three musketeers built on the foundations laid. Josh running well between the wickets, Jack putting hand speed and power behind the ball and Oliver using his skills developed in training to play the right shot to the right ball.
Half way through the innings and Gresford were going strong. 4 left to bat 32 runs needed.
Ready to face the task head on the pair of Jake and Ella. 14 runs scored off their two over, impressive. Two differing batting styles, two similar end products, runs!! Ella taking the tap and run approach made good progress, darting for 1s and 2s all innings. Jake taking the more aggressive approach of the two winding his arms up, attacking the ball firing it all over the place.
Finally taking centre stage A. Hancock and L. Roberts. The total stood at 32 runs, the target 15 off 4 overs. It was going to be a nail biting finish. Lewis got to work first, getting his eye in with 1s and 2s, then teeing off. Dispatching 2 fours in one over, both textbook pull shots. Archie held his end of the bargain up as well, driving the ball in to the space and pushing singles, using his cricket brain to help him out.
The final ball was bowled the verdict Gresford finished on 259 runs, 13 ahead of rivals Brymbo. A hard fought and well deserved victory.
Player of the match- First game of the season started well for Lewis, as he found his line bowling, looked solid behind the stumps and topped it off with a confident batting performance
