Match Report | Gresford Vs Pontblyddyn Another Sunday another Gresford fixture. This week to the lovely ground of Pontblyddyn. Although the Gresford side were away, the supported arrived in their numbers, making it feel like a home game. Warm up completed, minus a few wet soggy balls curtesy of the river. Gresford took to the field first.
The bowling was good and started as best as it could with a wicket from Dylan. His two overs were superb going for minimal runs. Next to bowl Zara, her over perfection no runs from it. Ranija was next to bowl showing everyone one tight lines pay off keeping the batting side at bay. Oscar followed suit, although frustrated with himself, when he got the ball on the money boy was it good. Kam followed next his two overs were good, taking wicket in his second to top things off. Josh Tifase, Hector and Josh Renouf bowled 3 very similar overs allowing the batsmen little room to play the ball. The brotherly pair of James and Andy looked the part, both showing great potential, placing the ball on the dot. Jensen’s two overs were tight with just two runs from it with no wides!! And finally who else but Ellis to finish up, bowling just the one wide with no other runs in the over well done.
Gresford restricted Pont to 275 not an easy total to chase. A well-deserved break allowed the Gresford team to refuel, ready to bat. First the crease Rhys Evans and Oliver. The bowling was good and Gresford struggled to find some runs. Rhys managed to craft a creative 4 and Ollie stood strong protecting his wickets, to defend Gresford’s total. Next to attempt a runs fiasco Oscar and Dylan. The experienced pair started well finding runs within the boundary. Sneaking a 2 here and there. Ranija and Ellis took to their posts next. Superstar of the batting Ranija batted the ball around finishing on 13, and Ellis used his hand eye co-ordination to perfection connecting with the meat of the bat sending the ball away from his valued stumps.
Back on track Zara and Jenson had their turn. What an innings credit to both batters, the only pair not to lose a wicket. Jenson looked at home, naturally playing some very technical shots, and Zara well Zara showed why girl power is something special picking the right ball to attack and defending the good ball. Something the senior squad could do with seeing!!
The brotherly duo of James and Andy were next, Andy showed real power smacking the ball around finishing on 9 with two 4s and James was quite the opposite letting the bat do the work placing the ball in the gaps.
Kam and Josh were the next batting partners. What could they bring to the table?? In fact quite a lot, both exhibiting there class with the bat. The technique was good and so were the shots.
Last but no means least Hector and Josh finishing the innings with style. Scoring 8 runs from their 2 overs, catching the eye of all the spectators. Gresford finished a few runs short of the big target posted from the hosts. But put up a great fight. Player of the Match- Rhys Evans- First competitive match of the season batting and bowling exceptionally well. |
