Match Report |
Gresford Vs Bersham First competitive match of the season had finally arrived the opposition Bersham. Gresford flocked in their numbers all 12 of them to take on the visiting side. After a quick practice the lads were ready and took to the field first. Opening the bowling the experienced Ranija, setting the standard from the off, taking a wicket 4th ball of his over, and another in his second impressive over. James equalled Ranija’s superb stats taking 2 further wickets to add Gresford’s tally. The competition heated up even further for the bowling side, as Christian found the stumps a further 2 times. There must have been something with the number 2, as Ethan bowling with real accuracy sending the stumps flying twice. Hectors one over was on the money, bowling good lines and lengths restricted the Bersham batsmen. Feeling the pressure from his brother Oscar knew he had to shine and did so, bowling with pace and taking a great wicket for his efforts. First game of the season for Jenson, you wouldn’t have been able to tell though, exhibiting a fantastic bowling action going for no runs in his over. Oliver bowled another gritty Gresford over, not giving the batsmen any room. Another first appearance for Ellis, the player of the game!! Taking a wicket in his over, looking like he had been playing for years. Josh followed the team’s great start taking a wicket in his only over. Matty’s over couldn’t have been much better, with only one run from it, bowling with great accuracy. Finally Lewis’s turn and what an over with 2 wickets in 2 balls followed by 4 dot balls. What a start for the Gresford side restricting Bersham to 196 runs taking 13 wickets. Think that may be a Gresford record!! After a feast a king would be proud of curtesy of the Gresford parents (BIG THANK YOU FOR THAT). Gresford put on their war paint ready to bat. Ranija and Ethan got Gresford of to a flyer, 15 runs from 2 overs. Ranija showing great technique playing the cut shot to near perfection, and Ethan batting with some cracking front foot drives not letting the ball get anywhere near his stumps. Second pair to the crease Christian and James, both kept the ball rolling scoring 11 runs from their 2 overs. Christian leading the way with 6 runs, running between the wicket with speed and connecting with some really powerful shots. James wasn’t keeping quiet either placing the ball in the gaps running cheeky quick singles. Oscar was next to the crease with batting partner Josh. Some great shots and quick hands led Oscar to 19 runs, with Josh playing the under rated support role tipping and running helping Oscar to his total. The next duo Ellis and Oliver, both used their footwork to full effect getting to the pitch of the ball. Ollie playing his off side shots putting the ball away, and scattering the Bersham fielders and Ellis using his hand eye co-ordination, connecting with the ball using the leg side to his advantage. The batting pair of Jenson and Hector were next to use their bats. Jenson showed everyone that hard work in training pays off, using his technique to full effect driving and cutting the ball with great efficiency. Hector impressed as well rivalling his big brother for shot of the day, a well-timed and placed off side drive. Last but by no means least. The pair of Lewis and Matty finished the game off in style. Both working together to make the most out of their 3 overs, finished on 7 runs each. Lewis watching the ball all the way on to the bat and sending it to the boundary, and Matty taking a more technical approach using his biggest asset, speed finding the gaps and sprinting for every single. What a performance no loss of any wickets and a score of 319 to show for it. The best Gresford performance that I have seen to date. Everyone played their part, a total team effort!!!! Well done. Player of the game- Ellis- All down to some nice tight bowling and effective batting and all in his first appearance!! |
