Match Report | GCC batted first and the openers Matty Thompson (22) and Jacob Roberts (33*) built an excellent platform. The batsmen who followed all chipped in with contributions: Chris Mullock, Adam Sawney, Charlie Maclosky, Lewis Williams (23), Tom Webb, Will Roberts, Sam Cooper and Harry Morris building up a competitive total of 119 off twenty overs. A talented Northop side would take some stopping, however the collective high standards of fielding made them work for every run. Tight opening spells from skipper Harry Morris and Cooper 'S', made the run rate climb steadily. Matty Thompson made the breakthrough when the opener put up a skier. The mighty Quinn got under it and managed to hold on tight. Will Roberts then took another with Thompson doing the catching on this occasion. All the fielders encouraged and built up the pressure, especially 'Mully' behind the stumps. With Northop falling short of the total by 18 runs, GCC ran out comfortable winners to be league champs of NEW. The win is dedicated to Luke Sawney who was injured and unable to play, he said to his doctor, " Doctor, I think I am a cricket ball". His Doctor replied, "Don't worry it'll be over soon"!!!!! |
